We're already looking ahead to Valentine's Day in what we hope will be our 2nd annual Monkeydick drag Harold. (Check out photos in our gallery for those of you who missed it).
It's got me thinking about how I have to play it, since the whole joke of the drag show was it was the only all male team doing it. I've been doing some research on drag kings and... most of them suck. Well, not suck, but there seems to be so little variety to them (That's kind of true of drag queens but they're also prettier to look at) -- almost everyone does an "asshole" character. Maybe it's because the main practicioners are lesbians who have a pretty low opinion of men in general, but almost every one is of the greased-pompadour rockabilly thug with a fake looking goatee. There are variations (I like Murray Hill's look), but its almost always "an asshole" and the look is basicaly a butch lesbian with a stick-on facial hair.
So, I'm probably going to do more of a character drag. Rather than "asshole" drag. Aiming for a character that I can pull off. Maybe some shoe-gazing indie rock dude. Or my dad.
I found a million tutorials for how to go stick on fake sideburns but not one on how to do a receding hairline. What up, drag kings?
